Careers

The mission of the Japanese American Museum of Oregon is to preserve and honor the history and culture of Japanese Americans in the Pacific Northwest, educate the public about the Japanese American experience during WWII, and advocate for the protection of civil rights for all Americans.

In alignment with this mission, JAMO believes in a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where all employees and volunteers — regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education, or ability — feel valued and respected. We are committed to a nondiscriminatory approach and to providing equal opportunity for employment and advancement in all our programs and initiatives. Our organization is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of the Nikkei community, but we respect and value the diverse life experiences of all heritages.

We are committed to maintaining an inclusive, equitable environment within our organization, the Nikkei community, Portland’s multicultural community, and beyond. You can read our complete equity statement here.

We encourage applications from people of color, LGBTQ candidates, people with disabilities, and others who are underrepresented in history and cultural institutions.

Thank you for your interest in working with us.
