Free First Sunday, Sponsored by the Brian & Sera Kimura Family

August 4 @ 11:00 am 4:00 pm

Join the Japanese American Museum of Oregon for this Free First Sunday, generously sponsored by the Brian & Sera Kimura Family.

Admission is free all day, 11am-4pm, and includes access to JAMO’s current exhibition, Because of Bill: William Sumio Naito’s Legacy in Portland. In addition, there will be a fan-making activity for all ages.

Decorate your own uchiwa hand fan! Uchiwa are a traditional Japanese fan used to keep cool in hot weather. JAMO has several in our collection that were used as advertisements for businesses in Nihonamchi. Uchiwa are also used in Obon dancing. JAMO will have blank fans and art supplies available for anyone who would like to design their own.

As during all Free Sundays, the History Detectives activities will also be available. Collect your first two stamps to be on your way to earning the History Detectives Badge!
